World War I Poem

Gunshots ring in my ear
The gas grenades make me tear
Artillery firing makes loud noise
Being in this war was no soldier's choice

Clouds of smoke rise to the air
Enemy taunts cause quite a scare
The trench stinks, the rats bite
Never can sleep because of the fight
external image imag0549.jpg
There's no food, nothing to eat
To have survived this long is quite a feat
Bodies fall, cluttering the ground
It's doubtful that peace will ever be found

Blood spills onto the dirt
The gas burns, it really hurts
Want to go home, don't want to die
The thought of perishing makes me cry

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
No comfort at all, we're forced outside
Death is creeping towards us all
Who sent us here, who made the call

It's not our fault to fight this war
To suffer these wounds and open sores
Fighting others when it is the war we should fight
To make sure all violence is out of sight
